This includes the provision of community located cardiology services, as well as the development of the hospital located secondary care service. This is a fulltime (plus on-call) permanent position located at Palmerston North. candidates must be eligible for vocational registration in Internal Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand, as well as having demonstrated clinical, management and teaching expertise and the capability to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team.The MidCentral Health Cardiology Service is currently undertaking broad planning to develop the existing service including dedicated diagnostic angiography and pacemaker implantation facilities. The are facilities for exercise ECG's, ambulatory monitoring, echocardiography (including TOE), diagnostic cardiac angiography, and the insertion and follow up of permanent pacemakers. There is a well established heart failure service and the service is implementing the national standards for cardiac care. MidCentral District Health Board employs more than 2500 staff at Manawatu, Palmerston North, Tararua and Horowhenua and Otaki districts. Palmerston North Hospital is a 350 bed secondary hospital, which services an urban population of 80,000 and a total population catchment of 168,000. In addition, the hospital is a teaching hospital, and is connected with both Auckland and Otago medical schools. Palmerston North is a major university city and is at the hub of key routes to the central North Island ski fields, and river adventures. Wellington the capital city, is only a two hour journey by road, as are the wine growing regions of Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa.
