The Govett-Brewster Len Lye Centre is a contemporary art museum of the Pacific, located in Ngamotu New Plymouth, Taranaki, with an international reputation and reach. Founded on the vision of New Plymouth-born Monica Brewster and her aspirations for an art museum for her city, the Gallery continues to build on its 50 year legacy of presenting significant national and international cutting-edge art that explores and celebrates who we are – our people, our place, our communities, our cultures, our histories and our knowledge of the world.
We are offering an exciting opportunity for an educator who is fluent in Te Reo o Taranaki me ona tikanga to join our public engagement team in the permanent 16 hours per week part-time function of Kaiako Maori. Reporting to the Curator of Public Engagement, this function is responsible for the development and delivery of education programmes for kura kaupapa, bilingual and main stream education groups with a Te Reo focus participating in Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre education programmes.
To be prosperous in this function, you will have an knowledge of and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and biculturalism and aligned with the Govett-Brewster’s kaupapa. You will have a tertiary learning or teaching qualification or relative teaching practice, be practiced in planning and implementing arts education programmes for young people and have knowledge of both Nga Toi Maori and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.
The Kaiako Maori is an accomplished communicator with sound interpersonal expertise and a warm professional approach, demonstrating an capability to form strong relationships with kura kaupapa, bilingual and main stream education groups with a Te Reo focus and a diverse range of people. Most importantly, you will be a collaborative team member working together with our gallery educators, well organised and bring a strong capcapability in planning and implementing arts education programmes. You will also support the organisational values of Mana Tangata, Oranga Tangata, Kotahitanga and Hapaitanga.
At Te Kaunihera-a-rohe o Ngamotu / New Plymouth District Council we aim to create and sustain a truly compensateing workplace environment for our staff. You can expect to start in this, 16 hours per week permanent, part-time function with us, between $62,214 and $67,743 pro rata. We have also put together an integrated Total compensates Framework that spans Wellbeing, Development, Benefits, Culture and Recognition.
