About our group and team
You will join The Web and Applications Services team. We provide business analysis, development and testing for priority business applications and ensure that the applications used all over the Ministry (and increasingly by many in the wider Education Sector) are reliable, high quality and available when needed. We provide resources, including staff, for projects. Once a project is delivered the Web and Applications Services team is responsible for supporting it.
About this function
This is a newly created vacancy and a great opportunity for an practiced and creative Senior UI/UX Designer to join a talented and fun team.
We have many exciting projects on the go, so if you have practice in agile methodologies, enjoy a fast-paced work environment and a fun team culture then we are keen to meet you.
The prosperous candidate will be responsible for the user practice (UX) and user interface (UI) design of our various websites and applications.
Your activities will include the following:
   » Ensuring that all elements of the user practice are designed with the user at the centre
   » Providing skills and advice within the team and across the business to enable the Ministry to be the best of class in the digital space
   » Conduct user research through workshops, surveys, interviews, and uscapability testing
   » Enjoy a modern working environment in which effort, a sense of humour and a positive attitude are highly valued
   » Work with like-minded colleagues who share information and focus on business goals
About you
As a Senior UX/UI Designer in the Ministry of Education you will combine UX thinking with design execution, to produce usable and intuitive user interfaces for websites and applications.
To be prosperous, you will ideally be able to demonstrate the following:
   » practice as a Senior UI/UX Designer or similar function
   » practice applying user-centered design (UCD) and interaction design methodologies
   » practice using user research, evidence and best practice to develop an knowledge of user needs
   » practice creating and validating wireframes, mock-ups and interactive prototypes
   » Working knowledge of the following technologies and software: HTML, CSS, Design Systems and prototyping software such as Adobe XD, Sketch, UXPin
   » Excellent communication skills and empathy for the user
   » Exceptional time management, organisation and planning skills
   » Be an excellent team player who is inclusive, collaborative, supportive and a great mentor
   » capability to demonstrate your motivations to work in an environment that is committed to benefit our education system. This includes embracing our unique and diverse society which welcomes different abilities, religious beliefs, ethnic groups, earnings levels and ideas about teaching and learning
   » The capability to understand and develop your knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi which is a critical starting point in inclusive education in Aotearoa New Zealand
