This Senior Practice Adviser function is a new and exciting opportunity to provide operational practice guidance and support to a new national service within Aotearoa’s justice sector. Once fully implemented, Bail Support Services will deliver bail services in all regions and District Courts across the country and will have a workforce of around 150 staff. Local level service design will determine how the service operates in each district, but the overarching standards of practice will be the responsibility of the Senior Practice Adviser to instil and uphold across all sites.
The Bail Support Service seeks to help those who are remanded, or at risk of being remanded in custody, to apply for and maintain bail while making positive changes early in the justice system process. Support is provided to defendants and their wh?nau to address un-met social needs, across prison, court, and community settings. At sentencing, Bail Support Services provide information to the Court around the defendant’s progress on bail to assist the Judge in making sentencing decisions.
The Senior Practice Adviser will report directly to the Manager, National Bail Support Service. They will also work closely with the wider management and operational teams. The Senior Practice Adviser will be responsible for providing operational guidance, facilitating reflective practice and practice development sessions, and creating an environment amongst the teams to work safely and effectively within the practice framework whilst adhering to our values.
To be prosperous in this position you will be a strong leader who thrives on creating environments for people to operate at their very best. You will have a good working expertise of justice sector processes and will be comfortable managing operational requirements across several teams all over the country in a complex environment.
Well-developed relationship management expertise are essential as the function requires significant stakeholder engagement, both one to one and in groups. Also pivotal for this function will be your capability to take Ara Poutama Aotearoa processes, values and practice standards and turn them into operational reality.
