About our group
The Secondary Tertiary team sits within the Early Learning and Student Achievement Group (ELSA) and covers the transition from senior secondary through to tertiary and employment.
ELSA delivers and maintains critical services to support responsive learner pathways from early childhood into further education, training, the workforce and society. ELSA performs a crucial function working between the strategy and policy teams, and the sector facing functions. The Secondary Tertiary team is responsible for operational policy, curriculum and support programmes for Year 11-13 learners, and the secondary-tertiary interface. This includes senior secondary curriculum, NCEA (including implementing the NCEA Review changes through the Review of Achievement Standards (RAS)) and secondary-tertiary programmes.
Manager function
Senior Secondary Managers are responsible for providing high quality, strategic advice and thought leadership abilities to the Senior Manager, Secondary Tertiary in relation to the NCEA Review and, on the RAS programme of work. Managers lead a team who are responsible for the development of new curriculum and assessment resources through external Subject Expert Groups and guiding the Pilot process.
Managers will provide day to day guidance and direction to a team of Lead Secondary Advisers and Lead Advisors. In this regard, the focus of the Manager is on ensuring the wellbeing of their team and the wider Senior Secondary team, prioritising work programmes and providing leadership abilities and input into the work of the Ministry to ensure all RAS material are significant and fit for purpose.
About the person
The person we seek will be agile and adept at handling ambiguity and complexity. Ideal candidates will take pride in producing high quality work, be a skilled facilitator and will be comfortable working independently to achieve defined objectives. They will be sensitive to cultural values and have a good knowledge of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and be able to articulate their knowledge of mana orite mo te matauranga Maori.
They will have sharp interpersonal expertise, superior writing expertise, and will be comfortable working with a diverse range of stakeholders and representing the Ministry.
The position is primarily Wellington located however Information technology may be possible to negotiate one or two days in most weeks to work in the house for people who normally reside outside Wellington.
practice and Appropriate qualifications:
   » Candidates will ideally have a background in middle or senior leadership abilities functions within the NZ secondary sector
   » A deep knowledge of current pedagogical practice and NCEA related assessment practice is necessary
