Access and Outreach coordinator
Employment type: Fixed term: 3 years, 30 hrs per week
Position purpose
The Access and Outreach Coordinator (AOC) for Touch Compass is a new developmental function.
We welcome candidates with lived practice of discapability who aspire to being a leader in accessible arts practice and culture in the future.
The AOC will be working with the Management team of Touch Compass to support access and inclusive practice and aiding our outreach activities to provide support and specific skills in access for arts projects and education programmes. They will grow to be an integral part of the planning and execution of Touch Compass programming and activity across arts, performance and education. The AOC will become the go-to person for best practice accessibility as applied to the work we do and will initiate, develop, process and evaluate access and inclusive practice initiatives for, and on behalf of, Touch Compass.
Essential functions of the function
Administration and Communication
   » Work closely with our team and partners, including staff, to understand discapability impacts, environmental barriers, and needs
   » Facilitate communication and provide on-going consultation and problem solving for access assistance for our artists and community
   » Provide access information and support resources to artists/participants with disabilities
   » Work with the Management team to develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate activities that support the evolution of access and inclusive practice internally and externally for Touch Compass, including guidelines and procedures that safeguard our commitment to our Five Pillars of Discapability Consciousness.
Guidance
   » Conduct site inspections and location evaluations to ensure access needs have been identified and addressed for all Touch Compass artistic, education and community projects
   » Provide initial and continuing support for training for Touch Compass staff and tutor team in access and inclusion practices, ensuring the team is incorporating current best practices
   » Work closely with the Management team and staff to develop and supervise administration of access and discapability consciousness within the work of Touch Compass and our partners, participants and audiences
Outreach
   » Support Touch Compass marketing, promotion, outreach and community-building initiatives including activities with a direct M?ori and Pasifika focus
   » Work alongside the Development Coordinator - Education Programmes to ensure programmes are accessible and in conformity with our Five Pillars of Discapability Consciousness approach
   » Participate in working or project groups as recommended or assigned
   » Participate in significant accessibility groups and networks upon the recommendation and/or approval of Management
   » Cultivate relationships with parties, people and partners who can help Touch Compass meet evolving artistic and educational access needs
   » Present training and presentations to audiences across the spectrum on significant access issues
Professional Activity (training and professional development)
   » Join and serve in significant professional organisation(s)
   » Attend and participate in staff meetings and project kickoffs
   » Represent our access and inclusion interests as an authority in access and inclusion on behalf of Touch Compass at events and occasions, where appropriate
   » Network with other similar professionals and organisations

Skills and qualifications expected:
   » At least a four year combination of related access-oriented education and work/life practice - this can be from your lived practice
   » practice coordinating access requirements for people with disabilities across physical sites (venues and outdoor/indoor locations) and virtual spaces (web-located platforms). Your practice could be ?you'.
   » Demonstrated knowledge of laws, acts and regulations regarding access and equity for people with disabilities
   » Demonstrated practice in, and an continuing commitment to, working effectively with and across diverse communities of people - culturally, linguistically, socially and economically
   » Demonstrated excellent communication, organisation and administration skills
   » An knowledge of arts practice and/or art making, performing arts practice
   » Strong relationship building and effective communication skills, empathetic thinking
Other preferred:
   » Lived practice of discapability or practice working with disabled people
   » practice with Touch Compass works, performances, community and/or practice within arts and creative expression
   » knowledge of M?ori and Pasifika cultural values and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
   » Demonstrated knowledge of discapability-related reasonable accommodation needs and resources
   » Demonstrated capability to anticipate and manage needs of artists, educators and our broader community
   » Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement
   » Understands and supports teamwork in the workplace
