adjunct Curator at The Physics Room (Full-time)

We are seeking for someone to join The Physics Room team as adjunct Curator. This is a full-time function, with a fixed-term of two years. Working closely with the Director, the adjunct Curator will gain curatorial and project management practice by playing a primary function in the delivery of exhibitions, publications, offsite projects, and events at The Physics Room. The ideal applicant will be passionate about the function of art in a social context, keen to develop their curatorial practice, and work to build and sustain strong relationships with artists and the wider community.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

   » Stakeholders, collaborators, and partners
? Key Job responsibilities:
Project management
   » Assist the Director with the research and development of projects
   » Support the planning and installation of exhibitions and offsite projects, including maintaining budgets and developing install plans
   » Manage the movement of artworks to and from The Physics Room
   » Organise exhibition documentation, and archiving of exhibition materials
   » Work closely with the Director to maintain excellent relationships with exhibiting artists, technicians, and contractors
   » Support and manage events, performances, and functions, including audio recording and photo documentation
Communications
   » Assist with editing of texts and writing to support the programme
   » Manage social media in conformity with The Physics Room Marketing and Communications plan, and Digital Strategy
   » Ensure the website contains significant, up to date information
   » Actively seek publicity and manage the production of promotional materials
   » Manage media relationships
   » Track media coverage and measure efficacy of promotional and press material
Audience development
   » Assist the Director with the implementation and development of The Physics Room's Audience Development Strategy
   » Support, develop, and manage a range of public programme activities
   » Provide introductory material and present talks when required
General
   » Manage the volunteers' roster and programme
   » Assist the Director with hosting visiting artists, curators, and other guests
   » Assist the Director to maintain financial integrity of the organisation
   » Assist with recording of performance measures and the preparation of reports
Essential expertise and competencies:
   » knowledge of and engagement with the principles and practice of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
   » Good people expertise, commitment to manaakitanga, learning and upholding tikanga
   » Interest in, and knowledge of, a wide variety of contemporary art practices
   » capability to research with a strong attention to detail
   » Excellent communication expertise including capability to write in a clear and accessible way
Desired expertise and competencies:
   » Full drivers licence
   » Familiarity with social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter
   » practice with the Adobe software suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
   » practice with Mailchimp and Survey Monkey platforms
   » practice with audio editing software
