OurFaculty of Health and Environmental Sciences(FHES) makes a critical contribution to covering the wellbeing of the people of Aotearoa New Zealand. Te Tiriti o Waitangi is at the heart of what we do. We transform minds by questioning the status quo – applying educational excellence in health, climate change, sport and environmental science, for sustainably connected communities. The faculty is committed to enhancing student equity of results across our programs and to lead the transformation of health professional education for the benefit of the health system and communities in Aotearoa. Information technology is AUT’s largest faculty with over 6,100 EFTS and approximately 580 (FTE) deeply committed Faculty staff, who are focussed on strengthening and enhancing the student practice and contributing significant high-quality knowledge advance and research in health, science and sports science. The faculty has a presence on all AUT campuses within Auckland (City, North and South) as well as in specialist facilities and satellite locations around the country.
The faculty is seeking an innovative and collegial new Associate Dean Learning and Teaching (ADL&T) to become a key member of the Faculty’s Executive team. With a new agenda around technology enhanced learning, blended learning and new forms of pedagogical practice, this function requires a visionary leader with a passion for innovation and the advancement of pedagogical practice. We expect cutting edge approaches to technology enhanced learning that will take us to the next level. The function will also be responsible for ensuring that best practices are disseminated and shared both internally and externally to enhance the reputation of the FHES and AUT. The ADL&T will support the quality assurance of Faculty teaching and learning and foster a culture of continuous improvement. this function will be located primarily on our North Shore campus but will include some travel to our City and South campuses when required too.
Key focus areas include:
   » Lead the development of innovative teaching and learning practices that advance personalised learning and the overall quality of our educational offer to students. This will include enhanced access developments as we respond to the needs of communities and health sector partners.
   » Deliver a new strategy for the faculty’s postgraduate programmes.
   » Lead the implementation of advances in learning technologies and digital and multimode practices in teaching and learning including innovations in learning design, along with and the development of rigorous authentic assessment and approaches to course evaluation.
   » Be responsible for the analysis and interpretation of data including sector-wide benchmarking to support continuous improvement
   » Uplift the learning and teaching capcapability and capacity of our academic community. Foster a positive culture of academic excellence in teaching and learning by leading academic debate relating to research in teaching and learning and by establishing a program of staff development.
You will also work closely with numerous external and internal stakeholders including the Faculty Dean, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Pro-Vice Chancellor Learning & Teaching, significant professional bodies and will be an important part of various faculty committees.    » significant practice establishing strategic partnerships within a pan-university or cross faculty context.
   » A strong research and scholarship record of sustained excellence and a recognised contribution to the academic field in area of skills.
   » Values led and a commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and bicultural issues.
   » practice in leading and implementing change within a participatory and consultative framework.
   » Outstanding interpersonal, negotiation and diplomacy skills, combined with a collaborative, inclusive, coaching and consultative approach to leadership abilities
   » A post-graduate qualification.

   »Term: The prosperous candidate will secure a 4-year term to the function of Associate Dean (with potential for further extension of another term as agreed by mutual consent), and preferably also a permanent academic appointment as a Professor or Associate Professor.
