The Audience and Insight Directorate leads the design and delivery of exceptional practices for our visitors. Information technology takes an integrated approach to how Te Papa connects people, taonga and stories in order to achieve a sense of wonder, belonging and purpose. Our museological practice is led by Te Tiriti o Waitangi and pushes the edges of what we know and what we do.
we At Present have a great opportunity for a Head of Public Programming to lead the development and delivery of public programmes that use Te Papa’s collections, exhibitions, and research, intellectual, cultural, scientific and physical resources to engage learners of all ages. This position provides dynamic and strategic leadership abilities to activate Te Papa’s rich collections and practices in innovative ways that extend Te Papa beyond its physical walls to our external communities. Managing a hardworking, creative and values-driven team, you will continue to build on our community-located approach to partnering, collaborating and co-creating with community and iwi partners to create significant practices through Te Papa
To be prosperous in this position you will need:
   » Exceptional practice working with priority audiences and communities, including M?ori, Pasifika, and underserved or under represented communities
   » Significant practice in the prosperous management or production of public programmes, events, performance and/or festivals in a significant context
   » Excellent expertise of Te A? M?ori with high levels of confidence in tikanga M?ori and Te Reo M?ori
   » Demonstrated capability to prosperously collaborate with Maori and Pacific Communities and deliver Programmes that meet their needs
   » Strong project management, planning, and reporting expertise combined with effective time management and the capability balance multiple priorities
   » Evidence of capability to analyse evaluation data and interpret research findings to inform programming decisions
   » Financial management expertise to establish budgets and monitor expenditure across annual funding allocations
   » Proven operational and people management expertise with demonstrated capability to sensitively and positively shape teams and ways of working
   » Exceptional relationship management, facilitation and influencing expertise to prosperously build and develop relationships within Te Papa and across the wider sector
About the function
The starting income for this position will be between $110,000 to $131,000 with further room for progression through the band. Offers will be made within the range to reflect the expertise and practice offered by the candidate and those required of the function, and internal relativities with other employees.
Te Papa is committed to the protection and wellbeing of children. A component of this function involves interaction with children so, as a part of the assessment process, we will require Police Vetting of preferred candidates to ensure we are providing a safe environment for children. This requirement complies with the Vulnerable Children Act 2014. Prior to Te Papa confirming any offer of employment, pre-employment checks will be undertaken, including criminal conviction history and reference checking as a minimum.
candidates must have the capability to obtain and maintain the legal right to work in New Zealand.
From 1 July 2022, appointment to a position at Te Papa will require a declaration of Vaccination Status (confirmation that you are currently vaccinated or not vaccinated against Covid-19). Future appointees will also need to comply with any future government or Te Papa mandates or requirements by way of producing ‘My Vaccine Pass’ (or another future process as specified) that confirms vaccination against Covid-19.
